What Size Post-Op Shoe Should I Wear?

The Darco OrthoWedge shoe is available in a range of sizes, helping you to find the best fit for your feet. The post-surgical shoe size that's right for you should be determined by your regular shoe size. To discover which post-op shoe size is right for you, check out the table below:

OrthoWedge Size UK Shoe Size EU Shoe Size
Extra Small Size 4 ≥ Size 37 ≥
Small Size 5 - 6.5 Size 38 - 40
Medium Size 7 - 8 Size 41 - 42
Large Size 8.5 - 10 Size 42.5 - 44.5
Extra Large Size 10.5 - 12 Size 45 - 47

Who Can Benefit From Using the Darco OrthoWedge?

The Darco OrthoWedge is designed for post-surgical use. The shoe functions to offer pressure relief to a targeted area, the forefoot, to facilitate a smoother healing process. Post-surgical and diabetic patients will find this orthotic footwear particularly useful, as it can be useful in managing and facilitating healing for:

  • Forefoot trauma
  • Post-surgery rehabilitation
  • Diabetic foot ulcers (DFU)
  • Forefoot ulcerations
  • Wounds and ulcerations under the metatarsal heads and toes
  • Post-operative correction of hallux valgus, hammer toes, or tailor's bunions
  • Charcot foot
  • Plantar pressure distribution
  • Rehabilitation for broken toes or forefoot fractures
  • Morton's neuroma

Which Insoles and Accessories Can I Use With the Post-Op Shoe?

The Darco OrthoWedge is supplied with a modifiable and removeable insole that provides twice the padding of a regular insole. The Darco Innovative Peg Assist Insole is also compatible for use with this shoe. The Darco Peg Assist Insole is fully adjustable, with removeable plugs that allow you to tailor pressure distribution as required.

If you find that the OrthoWedge shoe is becoming uncomfortable to walk with due to the leg-length discrepancy it creates, the Evenup Shoe Balancer is a great accessory to level-out your leg lengths for increased comfort.

Is the OrthoWedge Suitable For Outdoor Use?

The Darco OrthoWedge has an outsole designed for optimal grip on the ground where it is needed most, and should offer effective traction to support you on most terrains. While it is possible to use and wear this shoe outdoors, we would recommend avoiding using it in wet or dirty environments as much as possible. Keeping your wedge dry and clean will ensure long-term usage, and reduce the risk of degradation or damage.

Insole Sizing Guide

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
  2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
  3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

How to measure your insoles

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

Product Details Example
The dimensions of insoles can usually be found on the "Product Details" tab

What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?

If you do not see the dimensions listed on the Product Details tab, please fill in the form below and we will work to get the relevant information as quickly as possible. We will email you once we have the information that you have requested.

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
  2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
  3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
  4. Carefully cut along the traced line
  5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Trace the outline of your existing insoles
Carefully trace the outline of your insole

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.

If you would like a more detailed guide to trimming your insoles, please read our full guide on How to Trim Your Insoles.

Really pleased with speed of delivery, via Royal Mail, straight after the Bank Holiday weekend. The shoe has been fantastic, helping me get about without crutches, whilst waiting for my final check up. I am really pleased with my purchase and recommend this shoe to anyone who would benefit from heel weight bearing footwear, following surgery. The quality is excellent, very sturdy and easy to adjust the two Velcro straps.

I bought this shoe so I had one to wear outdoors (keeping the NHS-issued one for indoors). It did the job, I was very pleased with sizing, fit, comfort, quality etc. I was even more pleased with the fantastic service as the shoe arrived within 24 hours of placing the order. Highly recommend ShoeInsoles.co.uk.

This boot is great it has given me more freedom to move about after having surgery on my toes. I would recommend going up a size though I ordered XS (3 - 4.5) I wear 3-4 and my toes are just over the edge. Overall great product.

A painless way to heal your toe and walk
Rating:
31 January 2018  |  A.

This is a very clever design that allows you to walk with a broken toe without bending it and so allowing the healing process to speed up. No pain at all when walking.

If only I had this shoe after the first operation I might not have needed the second operation and second year of pain and suffering.

Darco Orthodox Wedge Shoe

First, excellent service from ShoeInsoles.co.uk. Ordered on a Sunday evening arrived first thing the following Tuesday. The shoe was as an extra as I had already received one from the hocspital after havige a toe straightened and pinned. Used one indoors the other out.

The weather being wet causing mud having two allowed me to go outside without bringing mud inside. Very easy to put on and off. A bit " cloppy" when walking. A very well made product .
