Sizing Information for the Darco Softie Shoe

To find the right size for you, simply match your UK shoe size to the table below. For a more accurate fit, our product experts recommend removing the insole from a pair of shoes and measuring it at the longest and widest point as pictured below.

Once you have these measurements, please consult the sizing chart below:

How to measure your foot

Men's Sizing Information

Darco Size UK Shoe Size Dimensions (L x W)
Small Size 6.5 - 7.5 248 x 91mm
Medium Size 8 - 9 263 x 94mm
Large Size 10 - 11 280 x 98mm
Extra Large Size 11.5 - 13 301 x 104mm

Women's Sizing Information

Darco Size UK Shoe Size Dimensions (L x W)
Small Size 2 - 4 217 x 79mm
Medium Size 4.5 - 5.5 232 x 84mm
Large Size 6.5 - 7.5 248 x 90mm

Why Is Taking These Measurements So Important?

Measuring an existing insole ensures the you get a shoe that closely matches the shape and size of your foot.

What If My Measurements Don't Line Up?

If the length and width of your insole conflict and indicate two different suitable sizes, we recommend selecting the size that correctly accommodates the length of your shoe. This is because the large strap on the shoe can be adjusted to accommodate slightly more width.

Similarly, if your shoe size falls between sizes (for example if you wear a UK size 6), our product experts recommend selecting the larger size shoe to ensure a correct fit.

How Do I Apply the Darco Boot?

When injuries are involved, it's vital you take good care to apply any rehabilitative wear carefully. Please follow the instructions below to make sure your Darco Rehabilitation Shoe fits perfectly:

  1. Measure the dimensions of your foot carefully against the sizing chart below
  2. Once you receive the correct size, loosen both sets of straps completely
  3. Carefully place your foot inside the shoe until the entire insole is covered
  4. Gently tighten the bottom strap that runs across the bottom of the foot
  5. Finally, slowly tighten the second strap until the shoe fits comfortably

Who Can Benefit from the Softie Post-Operative Shoe?

Designed for use after a foot operation, the Darco Softie Shoe provides you with rigidity and control of the forefoot. This helps with conditions that have been operated on like:

  • Hallux Valgus
  • Bone fractures that have healed crookedly
  • Bunions
  • Metatarsal surgery

Features and Benefits of the Darco Softie Shoe

  • Easy to fasten hook-and-loop straps
  • The patented semi-rigid metatarsal shank provides control of the forefoot motion
  • Provides excellent protection after osteotomies
  • Protects sensitive areas of the metatarsal heads after surgery
  • Tissue-friendly upper material conforms to any bony abnormalities and is also breathable
  • Can be easily fastened and loosened with one hand

Tri-Laminated Upper

The Darco Softie's very soft, breathable upper is made of a poly-cotton blend that conforms to the bony contours of your foot. This allows you to remain comfortable and cool even after extended periods of use.

Metatarsal Protection

A semi-rigid metatarsal shank permits enough flexibility for ambulation while providing superior control of forefoot motion to ensure that post-operative healing is not disturbed. This makes for superior protection after osteotomies.

Insole Sizing Guide

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
  2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
  3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

How to measure your insoles

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

Product Details Example
The dimensions of insoles can usually be found on the "Product Details" tab

What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?

If you do not see the dimensions listed on the Product Details tab, please fill in the form below and we will work to get the relevant information as quickly as possible. We will email you once we have the information that you have requested.

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
  2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
  3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
  4. Carefully cut along the traced line
  5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Trace the outline of your existing insoles
Carefully trace the outline of your insole

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.

If you would like a more detailed guide to trimming your insoles, please read our full guide on How to Trim Your Insoles.

Dario post op shoe

I am very pleased with this shoe as before I purchased it I was unable to wear a normal shoe due to a severe bunion. This shoe enables me to now go out while awaiting a procedure to correct toe. It is very comfortable and I would recommend it to anyone in a similar position.

Spot on what I needed

After months of searching, I was given the company name DARCO, looked under postoperative footwear, and the DARCO Softie shoe seemed the most relevant. My normal shoe size is Women size 39 or 7/8, so I decided to select Men size Medium. It fits perfectly, straps are long enough not to be tightened which would be painful. Heel being closed ensures foot does not slip on sole, medium size gives me approx. 1 cm sole beyond my toes, therefore preventing hurting them. Altogether the only sandal I have been able to wear, even across our gravel path to the car without feeling the pebbles, in several months! And the price is perfect. Thank you.

I am happy with my purchase but disappointed the second item was unavailable but will order from elsewhere as delivery on this item is too long. The product is excellent, well packed and delivery times were ok.
