Who Can Benefit from Wearing the Push AFO Ankle and Foot Brace?
The Push AFO is suitable for anyone having trouble with foot or ankle mobility. Conditions that can cause such symptoms include multiple sclerosis, post-polio syndrome, muscular dystrophy, foot drop and polyneuropathy. However, you should always check with a specialist before using an orthosis or ankle and foot brace to make sure it is the right product for you.
What Size Should I Get?
The Push AFO Ankle and Foot Brace is available for either the right or left foot. To find the right fit for you, measure the circumference of your ankle and refer to the sizing table below. To be on the safe side, you can match the brace to you shoe size as well.
Brace Size | Ankle Circumference | UK Shoe Size |
Size 1 | 27 - 31cm | Size 3.5 - 7 |
Size 2 | 31 - 34cm | Size 5.5 - 9.5 |
Size 3 | 42 - 47cm | Size 8 - 12 |
How Does the Push AFO Brace Work?
The Push AFO Brace works by supporting your foot and ankle through each step you take as you walk. It helps to control the natural mechanisms in your foot and leg as your heel strikes the ground, as you push off to move forward and as you swing your leg to take another step. This allow you to maintain a stable yet fluid gait as you walk.
How Do I Customise the Push Ortho AFO Ankle and Foot Brace?
Different parts of the Push AFO need to be adjusted by a fitting professional, such as the sole and the front closure. For a detailed visual guide, watch the video below:
How Do I Put the Push Ankle and Foot Brace On?
Once the brace has been adjusted to the correct size, open all of the straps and insert your foot underneath the crossed straps. You can then attach the straps, starting from the top closure, to the strap at the back of your foot and finally, the ones on the sides of your foot. For an easy-to-follow visual guide, refer to the video below:
Can I Sleep with the Ortho AFO Ankle and Foot Brace?
The Push AFO Ankle and Foot Brace can be used as a night splint as it can help prevent cramping and hanging of the foot while you're sleeping. Only apply the elastic straps loosely along the side of the leg and avoid using the elastic straps that cover your leg crosswise. You should also avoid tightening the non-elastic straps too much.
Can I Wear This Brace When I Exercise?
The Push AFO is suitable for use during sports, even if they involve jumping and sharp turns. However, frequently using the brace for this purpose can reduce the length of its lifespan.
Care Instructions for the Push Ortho Ankle and Foot Brace
The foot brace can be washed in the laundry at temperatures up to 30°C on a delicate fabrics cycle. Alternatively, it can be washed by hand. In both cases, avoid using any bleaching agents. You should also close the hook and loop fasteners before you start washing it to prevent damage.
To dry the brace, simply place on a gentle spin-dry, or hung up to air-dry. Avoid exposing it to a heat source or placing it in a tumble dryer. Drying the brace after it's used can help to keep it in good condition.
Please note, this product can only be returned if it has not been customised/altered.

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit
Using Your Shoe Size
For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.
Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.
Measuring Your Current Insoles
While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.
To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:
- Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
- Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
- Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results
Where Can I Find the Dimensions?
The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.
The dimensions of insoles can usually be found on the "Product Details" tab
What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?
If you do not see the dimensions listed on the Product Details tab, please fill in the form below and we will work to get the relevant information as quickly as possible. We will email you once we have the information that you have requested.
Trimming Your Insoles to Fit
To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:
- Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
- Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
- Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
- Carefully cut along the traced line
- Your insoles should now fit your shoes better
Carefully trace the outline of your insole
Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.
