Which Size Yaktrax Chains Are Right for Me?

Yaktrax Chains Ice Grips for Shoes are available in four different sizes. To find the correct size for you, simply take your UK or EU shoe size and match it against the table below.

Size UK Shoe Size EU Shoe Size
Small Size 5 - 7 Size 38 - 40
Medium Size 7 - 9 Size 41 - 43
Large Size 9 - 11 Size 44 - 46
Extra Large Size 11 + Size 46 +

Sizing Tips and Tricks

  • If you fall on a boundary or between sizes, we recommend selecting the smaller of the two options
  • Yaktrax are designed to accommodate the entire foot, so need to be slightly larger than the sole of your shoe

Who Can Benefit from the Yaktrax Chains?

If you work in the snow but don't have shoes with enough grip to stop you from slipping, the Yaktrax chains can make a huge difference to your life. Made to endure the worst winter has to offer, they are suitable for walking over ice and snow, and will remain just as effective in sub-zero temperatures.

Are the Ice Grips Easy to Walk With?

Due to their innovative material composition, the Yaktrax Chains are very lightweight and won't impede your movement in any way. Depending on the size you choose, they will only weight between 227.8 - 311.8g (8 - 11 oz).

How Do I Put the Yaktrax Chains On?

You won't have to waste any precious time putting your Yaktrax on. With one foot over the other, simply apply your Yaktrax to the front of your shoes and and stretch them back over your heels. You can get up and go as soon as they've been properly applied to both feet.

Is There Anything I Should Check Before Using Yaktrax?

Once you've put your Yaktrax on, it's a good idea to check that they have been applied correctly to prevent injury to yourself or damage to the product. Please check that:

  1. The word 'heel' or 'toe' on your Yaktrax are facing your shoe (they should not be visible or the device is inside out).
  2. The chains sit flat against the soles of your shoes and does not go past its edge.
  3. The outer band rests against the outer edge of your footprint (this should not be caught on the sole).

What Types of Shoes Will They Fit?

The Yaktrax Chains are made with natural rubber that will retain its elasticity, even in freezing temperatures. As a result, the Yaktrax can be easily stretch to fit securely over all types of shoes, including work boots and trainers.

How Do The Yaktrax Chains Ice Grips Work?

The chains of these Yaktrax are made up of resilient zinc-coated steel links that have been welded together. These individual chains are then fitted together in a ladder-like shape which helps to increase traction from both sideways and front-ways angles.

Can I Walk On Pavement With the Yaktrax?

You shouldn't walk on any hard surface that is free from ice or snow when wearing your Yaktrax, including on pavements and gravel. This is because the Yaktrax are not designed to deal with this level of resistance and can become damaged or broken as a result.

What Are the Yaktrax Chains Made Of?

To provide stability without disrupting your natural movement, the Yaktrax Chains Ice Grips are made from a range of sturdy materials. These are detailed below:

  • Outer Band - Natural Rubber
  • Chains - Zinc-Coated Steel
  • Eyelets - Zinc-Coated Steel

Insole Sizing Guide

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
  2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
  3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

How to measure your insoles

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

Product Details Example
The dimensions of insoles can usually be found on the "Product Details" tab

What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?

If you do not see the dimensions listed on the Product Details tab, please fill in the form below and we will work to get the relevant information as quickly as possible. We will email you once we have the information that you have requested.

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
  2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
  3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
  4. Carefully cut along the traced line
  5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Trace the outline of your existing insoles
Carefully trace the outline of your insole

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.

If you would like a more detailed guide to trimming your insoles, please read our full guide on How to Trim Your Insoles.

I use these for wading in rivers while guiding in Alaska and all over the planet! They slip on and off easy and if you are rafting they can be taken off quickly to prevent damage! Highly recommend them they might save your life!

Hi Nigel,

Thanks so much for getting in touch and sharing what you've been up to with your YakTrax! It's great to hear they hold up in the most rigerous and trying environments and that you can attest to their waterproof qualities also!

We wish you the best of luck when you're next in Alaska and look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Kind regards,

Seth at ShoeInsoles.co.uk
