Podotech Metatarsal Bars for Express Kits

It is hard ensuring that you have the right level of support across the whole of your feet when using a customisable orthotic such as the express kits available from Podotech. The Podotech Metatarsal Bar is designed to provide support and comfort to the metatarsal area of the feet. This is due to the way the bar lifts all of the metatarsal heads.

Who Can Benefit from the Metatarsal Bars?

The Metatarsal Bars are designed to be used with the Express Kits, meaning they are suitable for a wide range of people.

However, due to the design of the bars, they are specifically beneficial for those suffering from the following conditions:

  • Metatarsal Pain
  • Metatarsalgia

Metatarsal pain is caused by the pressure on this area of the feet. The use of the bars therefore reduces this pressure and helps to minimise the pain caused. This is due to the way the bars are positioned behind the toes. This place helps them to lift all of the metatarsal heads, reducing the pressure and discomfort in this area of the foot.

Features of the Metatarsal Bars

  • The bars are available in two different sizes to fit a wide range of different sized feet
  • The hardness of the metatarsal bars are 15 - 20 Shore A
  • The metatarsal bars are supplied as a pair

Sizing of the Metatarsal Bars

The Podotech Metatarsal Bars are available in two sizes: Size 1 and Size 2. Size 1 is suitable for people with feet up to UK shoe size 6.5 and Size 2 is suitable for people with Size 7 and above. The dimensions of both sizes can be seen in the table below.

Size Length at Longest Point Width at Widest Point
Size 1 (For Smaller Feet) 53mm 68mm
Size 2 (For Larger Feet) 57mm 76mm

How Does the Podotech Express Kit Work?

If you're after another part for your Express Kit Insole, please see below and select from our full range:

  • Kidney Shape with Centre Fitting Metatarsal Pad: provides a more extensive level of support across the whole metatarsal area.
  • Toe Bar: elevates the toes to help distribute pressure and weight away from this area, spreading it around the whole of the foot.
  • Kidney Shaped Metatarsal Pad: provides support across the whole of the metatarsal area behind the toes.
  • Central Metatarsal Pad: with a moderate rise, it helps to position the foot and provide weight distribution and relief of pressure, encouraging natural alignment of the foot.
  • Metatarsal Bars for 1st and 5th Heads: especially suitable for those suffering from metatarsal pain and metatarsalgia.
  • Stomach Shape Metatarsal Pad: provides support across the whole width of the foot, running below all of the toes to provide a consistent amount of support to the whole area.
  • Cobra Pad: particularly suitable for people suffering from fore-foot and rear-foot pronation.

Insole Sizing Guide

Our Guide to Finding the Perfect Size and Fit

Using Your Shoe Size

For most of our insoles, the easiest way to find the best size for you is to go off of your current shoe size. The majority of our insoles are available in a range of sizes and you can simply select the size that best fits your existing shoes.

Please be aware that, as with shoes, there can be slight variations in the size of insoles. For example a size 8 of one brand might not be exactly the same size and width as the size 8 of another. To help account for these discrepancies, a number of our insoles include dimensions to help you ensure you're getting the right size.

Measuring Your Current Insoles

While using your shoe size to find your best size is a good guide, it is not always foolproof. If you want to guarantee that your insole fit your shoes as closely as possible, we recommend measuring your existing insole and using this as a guide to your size.

To do this, please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Remove the existing insole from the shoes you wish to use your new insoles with (please note that not all insoles are removable)
  2. Measure the insoles at their longest and widest points (see the below diagram for an idea of where this will be
  3. Match the measurements to the dimensions of the insoles listed, and choose the size that best fits your results

Where Can I Find the Dimensions?

The dimensions for insoles can be found on the "Product Details" tab (please see below) and are usually found in the sizing section of the listing, in a table. Please be aware that not all products currently have the dimensions listed.

The dimensions of insoles can usually be found on the "Product Details" tab

What If There Are No Dimensions Listed?

If you do not see the dimensions listed on the Product Details tab, please fill in the form below and we will work to get the relevant information as quickly as possible. We will email you once we have the information that you have requested.

Trimming Your Insoles to Fit

To get the ultimate level of fit from your insoles, you can trim them to make a small adjustment. To trim your insoles, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Remove your existing insoles from your shoes
  2. Line up your existing and new insoles at the heel
  3. Trace the outline of the insoles against the new pair at the toe end (see the image below for an example)
  4. Carefully cut along the traced line
  5. Your insoles should now fit your shoes better

Trace the outline of your existing insoles
Carefully trace the outline of your insole

Please note that not all insoles are suitable for trimming. Most insoles are unsuitable for return once they have been trimmed to fit; we recommend bearing this in mind prior to trimming.

If you would like a more detailed guide to trimming your insoles, please read our full guide on How to Trim Your Insoles.

Tried this for my morton's neuroma, it definitely helps with the pain but not completely so may try a 3/4 insole next.
