What Are Odour Insoles?

Everyone's feet smell, it's a fact of life, but that doesn't mean you have to stand for it. If your feet are not quite an olfactory treat, an insole can make life so much sweeter. What Causes Odour?

Odour in shoes is most commonly caused by sweaty feet. Trapped in your shoes, the sweat has no where to go but be absorbed by your shoe bed, where the warmth gives bacteria a perfect place to fester. Your feet produce about a pint of sweat per day, that's more than enough for bacteria to feed on and make your shoes a less than fragrant place for feet.

The front part of the foot produces the most sweat, so it’s usually where the smell is most prominent. In fact, wearing socks can contribute to foot odour, as it can cause the hairs on feet to become trapped, giving the bacteria more surface area to thrive on, creating more isovaleric acid (the cause of the bad smell) and making the foot odour stronger.

Some foot conditions can also cause foot odour. For example, athlete’s foot is a condition where fungus on the foot grows out of control, and can smell quite unpleasant. The key to this is to keep feet dry and fresh, and the key to that is to invest in a good insole.
